The children at Saint Joseph School enjoy the singing games that we include in the general music program. For the children, the games are a fun opportunity for social interaction, but these games serve their musical development at many levels. The games have very limited melodic ranges, are repetitive and easy to sing, and they help the child develop in-tune singing. Many of these games are centuries old--some even originated in Europe before the United States was colonized. (The origin of "Oats and Beans and Barley" can be traced to the Middle Ages!)
